Embedding Academics Into Enrichment Activities

In this mini-course, we’ll explore how to create positive, enriching opportunities for students and share various ways to partner with the school day, families, and community organizations to support learning recovery.​ By the end of this session, you’ll be able to:  ​ Define high-quality learning recovery in the out-of-school time (OST) setting. ​ Describe strategies to address learning gaps in major focus areas.​ Identify 21st CCLC NTAC resources to support learning recovery activities.​

Overview This mini-course presents ways to facilitate positive youth development in out-of-school time (OST) programs. You’ll learn how to help students develop essential traits such as self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, and relationship skills. These skills contribute to a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment. By the end of this session, you’ll be able to: define positive youth development and its importance in OST programs; identify strategies to help students grow in key social and emotional skills; understand how positive youth development can enhance student attendance, engagement, and retention while reducing unwanted behaviors.

This mini-course for out-of-school time leaders (and aspiring leaders) helps you understand and use 10 pillars of servant leadership to develop yourself, your staff, and your program. The 10 pillars are listening, empathy, healing, self-awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, growth, and community.

This mini-course helps out-of-school time program leaders and frontline staff understand how stress, trauma, sensory needs, and other factors can affect behavior. It demonstrates ways to guide student behavior through reflection, redirection, and restorative practices that build trust and accountability.
